HELP ME WITH

Tell us what changed, even if you do not know what to book

Start with the change you have noticed, even if you are not sure what treatment you need. Tooth pain, bleeding gums, sensitivity, broken teeth, jaw tension, missing fillings, bite changes or missing teeth can all begin with a concern-led appointment.

You do not need to choose the treatment name before contacting the clinic. Describe what has changed, and the team can guide whether to book online or call for timing advice.

START WITH THE SYMPTOM

You do not need to know the treatment name before you ask for help

Choose the concern that feels closest to what is happening now. If more than one concern applies, start with the symptom that is most uncomfortable, most recent, or most likely to affect eating, sleeping, speaking or cleaning.

These pathways are a starting point, not a diagnosis. Your dentist can check the area, discuss what may be contributing, and explain whether monitoring, treatment, referral or a follow-up appointment should be considered.

02

If you are unsure what to book

Choose the closest concern below, or book a general appointment. Your dentist can check the area and explain whether a different service fits better.

03

If cost or timing matters

Ask for fees, likely timing and possible options once the concern has been checked, so you can decide with clearer information.

CONCERNS

Choose the concern closest to what you are experiencing

Start with the concern closest to what you have noticed. If symptoms are severe or changing quickly, call the clinic before booking online.

OUR PROCESS

What happens at a concern-led appointment

Your dentist shapes the visit around the symptom, how quickly it changed, and whether anything needs attention before a longer treatment plan is discussed.

The first appointment is used to understand the concern and explain possible next steps before care is planned.

If pain, swelling, trauma, or a broken tooth is the reason for booking, call the clinic so reception can guide the appointment type.

01Step 01

Tell us what changed

Your appointment starts with the symptom, when it began, what makes it worse, your dental history and anything that may affect treatment decisions.

02Step 02

Check the area properly

Your dentist may assess the teeth, gums, bite, existing dental work and nearby areas. X-rays, photos or scans may be recommended when they are clinically useful.

Choose the next step

You can then discuss whether to monitor the concern, treat it, refer, stage care, or book a service-specific appointment.

BEFORE YOU BOOK

Know what the clinic will confirm with you

These details help the team guide you toward the right appointment type and understand what should be checked before treatment is planned.

If pain, swelling, trauma, or a broken tooth is the reason for booking, call first for appointment timing.

Start with the reason

Symptom, timing, and anything already in your mouth

What changed

Tell the team whether the concern is pain, swelling, trauma, sensitivity, bleeding gums, a broken tooth, a missing restoration or something you have noticed over time.

How quickly it needs attention

Stable concerns can usually be booked online. Call first for swelling, trauma, worsening pain, a knocked-out tooth, a broken tooth or symptoms that affect eating, breathing or swallowing.

What to bring

Bring health fund details, medicine and medical history updates, relevant records if you have them, and any loose crown, filling, denture or appliance if possible.

COSTS AND OPTIONS

Costs, health funds and payment options

Fees, health fund claiming and payment-option questions can be discussed after your dentist has assessed the concern and explained what care may be suitable.

Health funds

Signature Dental can process claims for many health funds, and HBF and nib preferred-provider arrangements may apply. Rebates and out-of-pocket costs depend on your policy.

Payment options

Zip, Afterpay, Humm, SuperCare, CDBS and DVA support may be relevant for eligible patients or services. Terms, limits and eligibility should be confirmed before treatment.

FAQ

Questions About Choosing the Right Dental Appointment

Practical answers for choosing where to start when you know the symptom but not the treatment name.

Choose the page that best matches the change you have noticed. The page does not need to be a diagnosis before you book.

  • If pain, swelling, trauma, or a broken tooth is involved, call the clinic for appointment guidance.
  • If the concern is ongoing but not urgent, start with the closest symptom and book a general dental assessment.
  • If more than one concern applies, choose the concern that is most uncomfortable or recent.

Your dentist can check the area and explain whether a service-specific appointment is needed.
